Fear the Walking Dead 106: The Good Man
by Bobby Doherty @thehorndogg
The season finale starts where we ended last week. The chained up arena and all the zombies dying to get out. The family is now packing and following the original plan of running to the desert. Daniel wants to kill the soldier. Travis is convinced Andy has more to offer. Andy says he can draw a map to get people through the facility. Ofelia confronts her dad about the stories he told her growing up. That Daniel let her on to believe he was the victim. The group packs up all the food and water for the escape. Travis is forced into a choice on what to do with Andy as they drive away. Andy is convinced the only thing that is going to happen if he isn’t cut loose is that he’s going to get killed by Daniel. Travis releases Andy before they ever leave the safe zone.
Daniel has cut the chains on the arena and led the freed zombies to the military facility so they can occupy the soldiers while they break their family members out. We see our first horde of zombies. While they are breaking in Nick and Strand are breaking out of their holding cells.
The hospital was suppose to go mobile but because of the horde of infected the helicopters won’t land to evacuate the workers.
The kids who are now waiting up in a parking garage run into their own issues. Some soldiers who have realized it’s time to abandon ship find them in hiding in one of the cars and steal it. Chris is roughed up defending the Alicia.
Daniel, Travis, Madison, and Ofelia are searching through the facility looking for their family members following Andy’s instructions.
Leza is now outside. The horde is overtaking the fence and the soldiers. We get our first gruesome death as a soldier who was bit runs face first into a helicopter blade. Nick and Strand are still making there way out. Strand is very smooth and seems to understand the zombies. Strand finds the soldier he was selling stuff to dying and steals back his cufflinks and keys.
The group has now made it into the makeshift jail and are searching for their family. They start breaking people out of the holding cells. One of the prisoners lets Madison know that Nick left with a man in the suit. Nick and Strand are now stuck between a locked door and a group of zombies. Madison sees Nick and they are unable to open the door from the other side. Just as Nick tell his mom to run that it’s okay. Leza coming in from nowhere with her key card and opens the door. They escape down to the kitchen where they get trapped. After most of the group goes one on one with zombies. They eventually escape. Leza breaks the news to Ofelia and Daniel that Griselda didn’t make it. Leza wants everyone to go back to the hospital
They arrive in the hospital with the Dr Exner just sitting bedside staring at the people. She lets the group know there’s a way out through the ICU. While walking out Strand suggest that they all go to his house on the water. The group walks out to see where the military burns all the bodies. The pile is still smoldering.
The group is now in the garage the find out their car is stolen. Andy walks in now with a gun trained on Daniel and for some reason shots Ofelia. Travis goes full Rick on Andy beating the shit out of him.
The group is now traveling on empty LA roads and the concrete rivers to get to the water. Strand leads everyone back to his house on the water. It is now reflection time for the characters. Madison sees Liza is having emotional moment with Chris and follows her outside.
Strand is packing to leave says that no one can stay. We find out the Abigail he talked about earlier is a boat out on the water.
Madison and Liza are now by the water on the beach. Liza shows Madison that she’s been infected. Liza pleads for Madison to shoot her before she turns. Travis finds the two on the beach. Travis won’t let Liza kill herself or Madison. He thinks it’s treatable. Travis makes a promise to protect their son and we heard a gunshot. Travis put Liza down. Queue emotional montage.
Okay now if they would have done this for 6 episodes I would have so happy to write about it every week. I loved the pacing of the show this week. That Travis finally did something other than be a bitch. It was the chaos I would expect when a city of 13 million gets overrun by zombies. It seemed like everyone had something somewhat important to do. I give this one an A-. I hope they can keep it up for season 2.
Questions:
Why didn’t they leave one adult behind to defend the kids?
How did Daniel become the pied piper of zombies?
Doesn’t shooting door locked work like in the movies?
Escaping Zombies on a boat ending was that Land of the Dead? or was that Dawn of the Dead?
Did Travis shoot her with a 50 cal?
Why weren’t the abandoned streets more busy?. I mean normal LA traffic looks like this.
and they lead you to believe Atlanta looked like this after everyone ran.
