A new Superman will be flying through The CW very soon! It’s A Bird… It’s A Plane… It’s MTV’s Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin. That’s right, Tyler Hoechlin has been cast in the iconic role of Superman on The CW’s Supergirl.
It had been previously announced, that Superman will at last be introduced officially into what many fans call the “Arrowverse” (because The CW’s Arrow was the first DC related property to launch their DC Universe). Although his presence has been felt throughout the first season of Supergirl, this becomes a game changer as we finally get a face to the name. The biggest excitement comes from the fans that have long wanted more A-list heroes within the TV universe, with this news also comes the possibility of bigger story lines, heroes and foes.
“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”
Kreisberg previously told Comicbook.com last November that they were not “jonesing to have Superman on [their show].” He explained that it was a purely creative decision, though, by those running the show (Kreisberg, along with fellow EPs Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler), and that there wasn’t “anything [they’ve] asked for that was not given to [them].”

The second season of Supergirl will air Monday nights this fall at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
