Top 5 Questions We Need Answered from The Force Awakens

Due to Lucasfilm being sold off to Disney, they have brought us the gift of at least one Star Wars movie a year. With Rogue One now out we have gotten answers to questions we’ve had since the first time we saw A New Hope. We are also only a year out from Episode VIII. With any luck questions that came about from last year’s Mega-Hit, The Force Awakens, will be answered. So exactly what has been everyone talking about for the past year? What questions will be on everyone’s mind over the next year as we eagerly await Episode VIII? Let’s delve into some of the most pressing questions that arose a year ago.

QUESTION #5 – How did Maz Kanata obtain Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber?

One of the bigger scenes in The Force Awakens is when Rey journeys into the basement of the cantina on Takodana to find Luke’s lightsaber (unbeknownst to her at the time) in a chest. This leading her to have the now famous Force vision that hints at it’s past and her own. When the cantina is attacked by the First Order Han asks where Maz got it. She obviously responds, “That is a story for another time.” Will Disney give Maz her own comic or novel giving us her exploits including explaining how she obtained the lightsaber? Will we get the story straight from Maz in Episode VIII? The best theory is that since Takodana and Bespin are relatively close to one another that a scavenger found it there and crossed paths with Maz which is when she obtained it.

QUESTION #4 – How did Kylo Ren get Vader’s Helmet?

In one of the earlier scenes in the film we see Kylo Ren talking to someone. He eventually asks his grandfather to show him the dark side. When he moves, the camera shows the charred remains of Darth Vader’s helmet in what appears to be A stand that seemingly contains ashes, presumably Vader’s. Did Ren hire scavenger’s to go to Endor after hearing Vader’s tale from Luke? Was it in fact Snoke who somehow obtained the helmet and gave it to him as a gift when he seduced him to the Dark Side?

QUESTION #3 – Who are the Knights of Ren?

Little is still known about the Knights of Ren. All we know is they were a secretive group, potentially of Force users, who were put together and trained by Snoke to do his bidding behind the scenes for the First Order. We get a glimpse of them in Rey’s Force Vision. Rumor has it there will be scenes in Episode VIII where Rey and Luke will battle the Knights of Ren. Hopefully Snoke or Kylo Ren will elaborate some on this group as well in the film.

QUESTION #2 – Who is Supreme Leader Snoke?

In what appears to be adhering to the Rule of Two we have a powerful Force sensitive behind the scenes pulling the strings of the Apprentice. In this case Supreme Leader Snoke is the driving force behind the First Order but also seems to be the Master to Kylo Ren’s student. But truly who is this powerful figure? Many theories believe he is Mace Windu who survived his fall, but fell to the Dark Side to seek revenge on the Skywalkers for what happened to him. Some believe it is an unfinished clone of Vader or even Palpatine himself. It wouldn’t be out of the question since the subject of cloning was brought up in Legends but also made canon in Episode II. Another popular theory has Snoke being Darth Plagueis, the former master of Palpaitine. Whoever this mysterious figure is, let’s hope Episode VIII gives us some form of an answer.

QUESTION #1 Who are Rey’s parents?

From the word “go” we have all wondered who the parents of Rey are. The very first trailer had us calling her a Solo or a Skywalker. But the movie does a very good job of never giving us too much information about her. Only that a Skywalker’s lightsaber called out to her, she hears the voice of Obi Wan Kenobi in her vision, and she appears to have a similar dueling style to that of Palpatine (if you don’t believe me watch her duel then watch Palpatine duel against Mace Windu). Many theories have her as Luke’s daughter, Leia’s daughter with another father, the reincarnation of the Chosen One, and even a reincarnation of Palpatine himself. A couple other theories have her as the granddaughter of Obi Wan Kenobi or Palpatine. Whoever turns about to be her parents one thing is clear, they were/are powerful with the Force as we saw in her duel with Kylo Ren.

Those have been the biggest questions that everyone has been talking about for the past year. I am sure that over the next year as we count down to Episode VIII they will continue to be asked and discussed.
