Cold in July & Savage Season [SIGNED BY AUTHOR & ILLUSTRATOR] by Lansdale, Joe R.

Created by Jim Mickle, director of Cold In July

Jim Mickle created and adapted Hap and Leonard for television shortly after the success of Cold In July (if you have not watched this film, I urge you to do so immediately). Cold in July was also adapted from the works of Joe R. Lansdale. It’s a wonderful thing when a young filmmaker like Mickle comes across such a wealth of source material and is deeply inspired. This guy is just getting started–just wait.

Smart social political commentary that doesn’t feel insulting, but feels true to life and relevant to today’s social landscape.

There is a certain amount of art involved when you can manage to write subtle pieces of tolerance that explore relevant social issues without ticking off the sensitive nature of so many individuals today. This show does just this, and according to a recent interview with Wirth and Mickle, this is something that we can continue to expect in moving into season 2.
