The Fog, Prince of Darkness, They Live & Escape From New York
When I first heard about the 4K theatrical re-release of The Fog, I was delighted. To view the fully restored classic the way John Carpenter intended is a rare experience and opportunity that any film enthusiast would jump at. When it was announced that three other classic Carpenter flicks would also be given the royal treatment, I was beyond ecstatic. Seriously, I could barely contain my excitement. You see, when you are a workaholic and a bit anti-social, very little can motivate you to get off your ass and be where the people are. Then, as if my uber film geekiness could take more, they announced that these reissues will be made available as a special 4-disc collector’s edition and will sell separately.
Yeah, so John Carpenter fans are in for an amazing holiday season. I mean, theatrical re-releases and 4K restorations; this is the stuff dreams are made of.

STUDIOCANAL is delighted to celebrate the work of the master of ‘80s sci-fi, fantasy and horror, John Carpenter, with the announcement of brand new 4k restorations of some of his most iconic titles: THE FOG, THEY LIVE, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and PRINCE OF DARKNESS. All four brand new 4k restorations were done using the original camera negatives, with the colour grading approved for the new restorations and UHD versions by the films’ Cinematographers: Gary B Kibbe and Dean Cundey.
This Autumn, audiences will have the rare opportunity to experience the spectacle of Carpenter’s much-loved cult classics on the big screen looking better than ever. The Fog will begin screening theatrically on October 26th, with special Halloween screenings to follow. Its home video release comes on October 29th. Prince of Darkness and They Live will also begin screening on October 26th at select theaters, with They Live’s home video also arriving on October 29th. Escape From New York will play in select theaters on just one night — November 22nd — after which it will land on home video alongside Prince of Darkness on November 26th.
**just as a side note, there seems to be some discrepancies pertaining to the UK and US releases dates of the home video versions. I will post updates as they are announced.
Celebrated UK based artist Matt Ferguson has created exclusive brand-new artwork for each film and audiences will be able to appreciate the new 4k restorations at home when all films, complete with new brand new and ‘best of’ extras material, are released across Home Entertainment platforms including UHD for the very first time. A very special, 4-disc Collector’s Edition will be available of THE FOG, THEY LIVE, and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, that will also include a copy of the film’s seminal soundtrack composed and performed by Carpenter himself.
