Reports are suggesting that Star Trek 4 has been shelved
We finally received news on the Kelvin Timeline and it not what any of us wanted to hear. According to various reports, although Paramount still has not released a statement, the Star Trek movie universe is officially in limbo. Almost 10-years-ago, J.J. Abrams was tasked with breathing new life into the franchise. For the most part, with over a billion dollars earned worldwide, the director/producer mogul succeeded.

When it was announced that S.J. Clarkson was tapped to direct the upcoming entry into the saga, followed by a film directed by Quentin Tarantino, things were looking good for Kelvin timeline fans. Unfortunately, all of that changed the moment Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth allegedly requested a ridiculous sum of money for the next film. For folks not in the know, Hemsworth was set to reprise his role as George Kirk. Needless to say, the Star Trek box office does not generate the type of box office dollars or garner the worldwide appeal of a Superhero film and negotiations fell through very quickly.
This really is quite a shame, the Kelvin timeline was just starting to find its way. Star Trek Beyond was a fantastic Star Trek adventure and managed to receive high critical praise but after the stumble of Into Darkness, it would prove to be a difficult task to earn what was lost; trust.

Despite the alleged cancellation, there’s still a lot to be happy about. We have a lot of Star Trek coming in 2019, from Discovery‘s second season to the recently announced Picard series. 2019 could end up being a new renaissance for the franchise. Let us also hope that Tarantino’s take on the Star Trek franchise does see the light of day because it would be the adrenaline shot needed to jumpstart the cinematic side of the franchise.
