Supernatural Western Horror ‘The Wind’ is Full-On Weird! (Trailer)

The Wind looks to wade deep into the weird west genre

Emma Tammi’s feature film debut looks to be a femme-centric wild west ride into the bizarre and weird. The Wind marks the feature film debut from screenwriter Teresa Sutherland and director Emma Tammi and promises to deliver some atmospheric scares that very few westerns dare venture through. The Wind had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2018, as part of the festival’s Midnight Madness section and is scheduled for a U.S. release on April 5, 2019.

Although some of the earlier reactions to the film have been mixed, this is not surprising when it comes to the weird west, as many critics and audiences seem to struggle with the concept of the genre. Especially when it comes to the mainstream attempts i.e. Jonah Hex, Cowboys and Aliens, The Dark Tower; it’s a genre that has been marred by gross negligence and shoddy writing. Whereas, if you take a careful look at the last decade’s indie film market there has been dozens or more weird west attempts that were critically successful. Just take a look at Martin Koolhoven’s Brimstone or Andreas Prochaska’s The Dark Valley, these are just two films out of a dozen or more that have been produced by indie filmmakers, proving that they have what it takes to make a revisionist-style dark and brooding western flick.

So, I’m keeping my hopes high for this one! Check out the trailer below.
