Star Trek Discovery 2.08 ‘If Memory Serves’ Breakdown
Star Trek: From the Holodeck is a fan broadcast dedicated to breaking down, analyzing and discussing all things Star Trek.
This week Mike and Dave discuss and breakdown Star Trek Discovery 2.08 ‘If Memory Serves’. Spock and Burnham head to Talos IV, where the process of healing Spock forces the siblings to confront their troubled past. Stamets desperately tries to reconnect with an increasingly disconnected Hugh, while Tyler struggles to shed the crew’s suspicions of him due to his past as Voq.
Some Topics Discussed:
- Mike starts the show by saying “just know that as a die-hard Trek fan for most of my life, I loved how this episode opened up with the title sequence reading ‘Previously on Star Trek’. I got some serious geek chills.
- This episode had so much heart, so much emo, ion and personal reflection.
- We heard early on during the production of season 2 that showrunner Alex Kurtzman had made it a goal to clarify and adjust Trek canon and chronological questions. That’s exactly what this episode did. It gave the audience a clearer idea or a better snapshot of the chronological order of events.
- ‘The Cage’ has always been a fantastic poetic episode of Trek with a philosophical angle. There was a thought that Roddenberry had hoped to share about technology and advancement.
- and more!
