Over the past two days, Sony has surprised us by dropping numerous teaser posters — teasing the impending release of the first trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s 9th film. Now, today fan’s of the cinema can rejoice! The very first teaser trailer for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is at last here!
I’ve been waiting for this trailer since its announcement — being a huge western fan I was fairly stoked by the chosen title. For those not in the know, the title is an obvious homage to Sergio Leone’s spaghetti western masterpiece, Once Upon a Time in the West. But knowing that the film’s backdrop was set to take place in Hollywood during the 1960s, I was intrigued to see how Mr. Quentin Tarantino intended on drawing parallels to Leone’s flick.
Not surprisingly, Tarantino chose to cut a teaser trailer that showcases the film’s comedy and lightheartedness. The tone shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Tarantino usually markets his films through a lens of quirky comedy. No doubt the film will end up balancing darker tones with comedy, as this is a common trope Tarantino utilizes to bring levity to his movies.
Here’s the official logline: Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood visits 1969 Los Angeles, where everything is changing, as TV star Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt) make their way around an industry they hardly recognize anymore. The ninth film from the writer-director features a large ensemble cast and multiple storylines in a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age.
Feast your eyes on the teaser trailer!
