Deadwood movie trailer and poster
One thing that I discuss on Weird West Radio quite a bit, is Deadwood’s uncompromising depiction of the American West. Deadwood was a show that took a lot of creative risks when it had originally aired, taking the western genre down a brutal and crude path that many fans of the genre at the time were not keen on.
Since creator David Melch announced that a film was being produced by HBO, there has been a lot of debate whether or not the upcoming Deadwood movie would pull back on the crude factor, especially due to the current landscape.
Well, I’m guessing by the brilliant use of the F-word in the marketing, Melch is not so gently assuring fans that the show will be true to the series and that includes all the colorful jargon, slang and cursing.
HBO is set to premiere Deadwood: The Movie on May 31.
Here’s the synopsis:
In this original movie based on David Milch’s acclaimed, Emmy®-winning HBO series of the same name which debuted 15 years ago, the indelible characters of the show are reunited after a decade to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested and old wounds reopened as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.
