The Hap and Leonard trilogy (seasons 1-3) is now available on Netflix
The third and final season of Hap and Leonard is finally available on Netflix. It’s a bittersweet moment for me, as well as most of the loyal viewers of the show. Typically, when a new season debuted on Netflix, that meant a new season would be dropping via SundanceTV. It was an exciting couple of years.
I had followed the show since it premiered on SundanceTV and enjoyed the hell out of the pulpy vibes and the fantastic performances. You really can’t go wrong when you combine the likes of James Purefoy, Michael K. Williams, Jimmi Simpson
The ingredients were there, but it wasn’t until season two that the show would find its feet. Hap and Leonard really took form once executive producer John Wirth (Hell on Wheels, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Wu Assassins) came onboard as showrunner. John was able to take the seeds that Damici and Mickle planted and created an ideal environment for the show to grow and flourish. John has a knack for taking potential and fleshing it out and that’s exactly what he did with this show. He and his team managed to dig deep into the source material and derive pieces of social commentary in Joe Lansdale’s original work that could be considered even more relevant in today’s world. Hap and Leonard is an American television drama series based on the characters Hap and Leonard, created by novelist Joe R. Lansdale and adapted from his series of novels of the same name.[2] The series was written and developed by Nick Damici and Jim Mickle, who had previously adapted Lansdale’s Cold in July and was directed by Mickle.[1] The series premiered on the American cable network SundanceTV on March 2, 2016. So far, the series has received favorable reviews.
The series was renewed for a six-episode third season, which premiered on March 7, 2018. The third season was inspired by the third novel in the Hap and Leonard series, titled The Two-Bear Mambo.[7]
On May 14, 2018, SundanceTV announced they had cancelled the series after three seasons.
