This week Mike and Dave discuss Star Trek: Discovery 3.12 ‘There is a Tide’.
Topics Discussed:
- It’s very strange; the show has been consistent — but there are some issues piling up, but because the season has been stellar, we are also dealing with some really great things. These last two episodes are just not an example of some of their best work this season.
- The highlight of this episode for me was having Admiral Vance and Osyraa pair off and get them to talk. This scene was a perfect example of a well-written moment that cleverly disseminates information in a way that doesn’t feel overly contrived.
- Osyraa’s sincerity does create some narrative issues within the plot. If she was serious about peace and was willing to adhere to reforms and abide by the prime directive, why did she hijack Discovery and not just simply set up a meeting with The Federation???
- So Burnham and Stamets — logically, there probably should be some fallout between the two of them. I just hope we can find a way to move past it quickly.
- I like the characters a lot but at times it just feels like more of the same without any progress.
