Ranking the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con Movie Trailers
Every year San Diego Comic-Con leaves us all talking about what new trailers debut in the panels from the movie studios and this year was no different. We have everything from Super-Heroes to Snowden and below are my rankings.
10) Blair Witch – September 16, 2016
This was Lionsgate surprise at comic-con. Another movie that will never recapture the buzz of the original. It wasn’t a trailer anyone was looking forward to and it does nothing for me.
9) King Arthur: Legend of the Sword – March 24, 2017
I like Guy Ritchie and I like Charlie Hunnam but the trailer was very odd feeling to me. First I got the Snatch vibe then a very mid-evil lord of the rings type feel to it. Just didn’t work of me.
8) Dr Strange – November 4, 2016
Dr Strange aka Marvel presents Inception 2: A Mystical Journey. Its unfortunate that I’ve seen Inception and the Matrix at least 100 times each.
7) Wonder Woman – June 2, 2016
I’m probably going to get hate for this but I’ve seen pornos start the same way as the Wonder Woman trailer did. Fight scenes look amazing and I love the Wonder Woman score. Trailer feels like a cross between Captain America: First Avenger and Fury
6) Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – November 18, 2016
Normally I’m not too keen on spinoffs but it looks like they’ve done a good job of connecting with the Harry Potter series without using it as a crutch in the trailer.
5) The LEGO Batman Movie – February 10, 2017
I was a huge fan of the original Lego Movie and I’m all in on this. Batman was one of my favorite things about the Lego Movie and I’m excited about a fun Batman movie that I can take my daughter to.
4) Kong: Skull Island March 10, 2017
Trailer tells a story without giving away too much. I could probably watch Goodman and Jackson have arguments and stare downs for a whole movie.
3) Snowden – September 16, 2016
I am excited and nervous all at once about this movie. I have a feeling this movie will be a lot like The Big Short, where there is no winners. He’s either against America or America is against us. This was by far the oddest movie I’ve ever seen promoted at SDCC in all my years of going. An Oliver Stone movie in San Diego weird.
2) Justice League November 17, 2017
What I love is that people are complaining about who’s the villain? Where’s Superman? Remember when all these same people complained about BvS showing Doomsday. Trailer made me believe in The Flash and Aquaman. I had my doubts about both but in about 3 mins they made a believer out of me.
1) Suicide Squad August 5, 2016
I have hyped this movie so much in my head over the last couple months and I think this cut of the trailer using the original soundtrack was perfect. I hope they keep the same tone that the trailers have conveyed throughout the movie.
