Michelle Yeoh to boldly go to CBS All Access’ new Star Trek series.
A few days ago sources told Deadline that the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon actor will be heading into the final frontier with Star Trek: Discovery. Not a lot of information has been released as of yet on the specifics but sources say that she will the leader of another ship (not the discovery). Yeoh will play the role of Han Bo and the ship she will command is the Shenzhou.
According to Deadline: “Star Trek: Discovery producer CBS TV Studios declined to confirm Yeoh’s casting.”
Up until now, there has not been any other cast members revealed for the new series; Yeoh is the fist to be revealed. For the most part, Star Trek has always managed to garner global appeal, however casting one of Asia’s biggest stars is a play to garner massive global interest in the new Star Trek series. This is smart due to the recent news stating that Netflix will be tasked with distributing outside of the U.S. and Canada to a massive 188 countries.
Very little plot details about the new series have been revealed. Based on the scraps of info that have managed to be pieced together, we know that the events within the series will take place roughly 10 years before the original series, and the new lead character will allegedly be a young woman serving aboard the Federation starship Discovery.
Fuller co-created Star Trek: Discovery with Alex Kurtzman and served as showrunner until last month when he stepped down from the role. Gretchen J, Berg and Aaron Harberts have been tapped to replace Fuller.
